WEDNESDAY AUGUST 3RD 2005
Lisa was sat in the flat on her own, desperately trying to picture the face from her nightmare a couple of nights before. The dream had seemed so vivid to her at the time, creating a horrifying vision that made her wake up screaming…but now, it was hard to picture him again.
She couldn’t be certain whether or not it was somebody she knew now. Was the face one that she saw most days? Nathan was trying to help her relax, saying that the vision would come back to her again. Lisa could only agonise, waiting….
Nathan was working in one of the Riverside bars in Norwich, when one of his colleagues starting talking about Lisa.
‘How’s that woman of yours then, Cameron? Is she OK now? She was the girl in the papers wasn’t she, that got raped?’ Simon, of the other barmen, seemed to leeringly grin while he was saying this.
‘Yeah, she’s not too bad, thanks,’ Nathan almost whispered. He really wasn’t keen on this bloke taking such an interest.
‘Where did it happen? Hamborough wasn’t it? Dodgy place these days, women ought to be more careful…’
Nathan started to lose his temper.
‘You trying to say that she asked for it, mate?!’
‘Hey! Cool it, Cameron! Of course not! But young women take all sorts of risks these days at night…can’t be too careful!’
‘Yeah, I suppose,’ Nathan let it go this time, but there was something he really didn’t like about Simon’s attitude.
‘Ray, it’s Val…just wanted to make sure that you’re alright. Please give me a ring, doesn’t matter what time, or where you are. I just want to know that you’re alright…’
Val wiped away tears as she hung up the phone. Her initial anger had passed, she just wanted to know that he was alright now. They’d been through too much for her to give up on him now. She knew that, if he walked through the door right now, she’d be pleased to see him and would help him out in anyway that she could…
