Now, I’ll stop waffling…back to Alborford we go….

St Thomas’s Church was filled with gasps after Fiona’s rant at Max, who had decided to get married on St George’s Day…in a St George’s outfit!

‘Just what the hell do you think you’re playing at Max?!’ She continued to shriek

‘Please! If you’re going to blaspheme in the church, I think you should at least move away from the congregation!’ The vicar intervened.

    ‘Come through to the vestry…’

He led them through and closed the door, leaving them to it, and returned to calm down the congregation.

‘This is fantastic, I thought this wedding was going to be boring!’ Kris laughed to Jo.

‘Shhh!’ Jo replied, but she couldn’t help grinning at her friend’s humour!

    Back in the vestry…

‘What are you on about, Fi?! I know the outfit is daft, but it’s just a bit of fun! But cheating?! I’d never cheat on you!’ Max was bewildered…and sweating in his outfit now!

‘I SAW YOU! Lisa and I saw you and Nathan with those sl*gs in the bar! I saw you with your tongue down her throat!’ Fiona was livid.

‘And for your information, a snog is all it was! I’m really sorry about that…but I just snogged her…at least I didn’t go back to hers!’

‘And Nathan did?!’ Fiona was horrified, realising that Lisa’s fears were confirmed yet again.

‘Well, we’re not here to talk about him,’ Max’s expression gave away the answer to that one, no words were needed.

‘I know it could be worse, and that things get out of hand on a stag do…but I just feel like you’re making a fool out of me, Max! As if all this excitement and planning I’ve had is being made a mockery of!’

Max realised then how stupid he had been. He should have known, after Fiona’s dreaming of a perfect wedding, that having a laugh with the outfit was not really the best idea!

He sat down on a bench, putting his sword to one side, and looked up at Fiona. They stared at each other for a while, and then Fiona burst out laughing…

‘You look ridiculous! I suppose I’ve let myself get too stressed about everything…making out that I was living out some sort of fairytale!’

    Max held her hand

‘But you’re entitled to feel like that, and this is the best, most important day of my life too..I love you, Fi, and want you to be happy.’

‘I am happy, happier than I’ve ever been. Things weren’t easy until you came along and made it all better again..’

‘So, what do you say, you still want to marry Saint George?!’ He smiled.

‘Of course I do, and it’s not like you’re going to get a chance to pull a stunt like this again is it! One things for sure, everyone’s going to remember this Alborford wedding aren’t they!’

    They both laughed again.

    ‘They sure are!’ Max added.

Back in the main part of the church, everybody anxiously waited to see what was going to happen next.

‘I hope he’s apologising for his life in there!’ Josie snapped, with disgust.

‘Oh, give the boy a break, love, he was only trying to make the day a bit light hearted with it. After all, Fiona’s been making this all far too serious!’ Don replied.

‘Our wedding day was obviously a lot more serious for me than for you all those years ago too!’ Josie felt outraged that Don was being so casual about the events of a few minutes ago.

‘Come on you two,’ Sam leaned over and interrupted, ‘we don’t want you two heading for the divorce courts just as Max gets hitched!’

Josie gave him a black look.

‘That’s if your brother actually gets married today, Sam. Don’t hold your breath!’

Ros tended to Holly, pretending not to notice what was being said.

On the other side of the church, Jack was chatting to Richard.

‘How come Rachel’s not here today then?’

‘We had a big row again on the phone and she told me to still come, saying that she was keeping away because of me, that she’d be going to her parents this weekend.’

‘Shame that you two won’t even sit in the same church together for a couple of hours! Have things really go that bad now?!’ Jack asked.

‘It seems so. She’s getting pretty stubborn at the moment, thinking that we’ve burnt our bridges now…I just hope that it’s not too late to sort things out one day..’ Richard looked like a beaten man, thought Jack.

    ‘Me too mate, me too.’

Kris caught Jo looking over at Jack as Richard as they chatted.

‘There you go, giving him the eye again!’ Kris laughed, much to Jo’s embarrassment.

    Jo blushed.

‘Stop it! You love winding me up about him, don’t you!’

‘Well, stop getting all gooey and I’ll stop winding you up, girl! Just make a move on him at the reception and maybe we can all get some peace!’

Jo sighed, knowing that Kris had a point. If she really wanted a relationship with Jack, it was about time she told him so.

Val was talking to Laura about the recent events too.

‘Let’s hope they sort it out, Josie will be so upset otherwise!’

‘Never mind Josie, Mum. What about Fiona and Max, they’re the important ones in all this?!’

‘I know, darling, but Josie’s been hoping they’d both settle down for years, and she’s going to have her dream come true at last. It’s every mother’s dream…I can’t wait for the day you get married!’

Laura didn’t reply, but looked across at Nathan and Lisa, who were laughing together a couple of rows behind her. She quickly looked away when Lisa looked across at her suddenly.

Seconds later, Max and Fiona reappeared from the vestry, and everyone looked up at them expectantly.

‘Well everyone…thanks for coming….sorry about the delay, normal service is about to be resumed!’ Max smiled, as Fiona looked lovingly at him, and everybody broke into applause and cheers.
