REX ROAD DOUBLE WEDDING EPISODE – PART TWO
ST GEORGE’S DAY IN ALBORFORD and also the day of Max and Fiona’s wedding, and everyone was getting ready for the main event.
Max and Nathan both sat on the sofa at the Holland Road flat, trying to recover from the night before.
‘Oh, my head feels like it’s got a pneumatic drill going inside it!’ Max complained.
Nathan was never as hungover as Max, so was almost chirpy in comparison.
‘Oh well, it was well worth it mate, we had a right laugh didn’t we?! And had some fun with those two girls, eh?!’ He nudged Max in the ribs and he groaned loudly.
‘Well, at least I didn’t take mine home at the end! Don’t think I could have gone through with the wedding if I’d done that!’
‘You wimp! It’s only a bit of fun! It’s not going to hurt anyone!’
Max just couldn’t be as laid back about that as Nathan could. He couldn’t help thinking that Nathan would end up old and lonely, admiring himself in the mirror.
‘It’ll hurt you when Lisa gets wind of it and takes the garden shears to you!’
Nathan roared with laughter ‘Never gonna happen, mate. Anyway, I think you need a hair of the dog to get you sorted…may as well carry on drinking!’
Max groaned loudly.
Fiona was getting into her dress, as Lisa looked on. They had stayed in a hotel the night before, to leave the boys in the flat and keep some kind of tradition going.
‘So, you’re still going to go through with it then?’ Lisa asked.
‘Well, he was drunk, it was a stag do, what else can I expect?’ Fiona sighed.
‘Him not to stick his tongue down a girl’s throat?!’ Lisa cried.
‘Well, yes…but it’s just a drunken lad’s thing…nothing’s going to spoil today, not if I’ve got anything to do with it!’ Lisa looked her friend up and down and wondered if it even mattered who her groom was. It seemed, as long as she got married today, that was the only result Fiona wanted.
‘Besides, Lisa, what are you going to do about Nathan, now you’ve got some photographic evidence?’
‘Well, shame it wasn’t a picture with Laura in it, but I’ll make him sorry alright, and can use it to get an admission of guilt about Laura…or I’ll start on her, because she’s a wimp anyway!’
Fiona felt worried ‘Well, I hope things turn out for the best, I really do!’
Josie and Don were making their way down to St. Thomas’s church, looking forward to what they hoped would be an uneventful day.
‘Our boy getting wed, eh? It’s hard to believe how settled they are, isn’t it?’ asked Josie, linking arms with Don, feeling very happy with her lot in life at the moment.
‘Very hard to believe! After all the trouble we had with Sam especially, and now he’s a father!’
‘Yes…although, I do wish that he and Ros would get married…he told me a while ago that he had proposed to her, but she turned him down!’
‘Well, it’s understandable, love. After everything she went through with Nick Turner, I suppose marriage doesn’t mean the same thing to her any more…’.
Josie sighed ‘Hmmm…I’m sure Sam could change her view of marriage…anyway, I hope she doesn’t have a funny turn about it all today?...’
‘Of course she won’t! Ros is a mature woman, she knows how to behave! Better than someone like Kris Slater, that’s for sure!’
Before long, it was time for the guests to all be in place, and Max walked into the church to gasps from the guests.
‘Max! I never realised that you had this in mind! What on Earth are you thinking?!’ Josie was horrified.
A few minutes later, Fiona and Lisa got out of the car outside the church.
‘Well, this is it, are you ready?’ Lisa asked, holding Fiona’s hand supportively.
‘As ready as I’ll ever be! My heart is racing! This is the day that I’ve always dreamt about!’ Fiona looked so happy now, that Lisa just didn’t have the heart to mention last night again. And she kept thinking about her own problem with Nathan anyway…
As the organ music started, Fiona’s father moved forward.
‘Hello, Mr Redfern!’
‘Hello, Lisa. Call me Anthony! Darling, are you ready now?’
‘Yes, daddy, let’s go,’ Fiona looked so excited, and Lisa cringed inside when she called him ‘daddy’.
They started to walk into the church, and Fiona grinned so much, she thought her face would crack. She smiled at all the guests, but suddenly noticed that some of them were looking more concerned than happy….what was going on?
She looked straight ahead to wear Max was standing…and saw a man wearing a
St George’s outfit in his place….What was this?! Hang on…this was Max!
Fiona’s dreams were instantly shattered, and she lost it completely.
‘What the hell are you playing at, Max?!’
‘Fi…I can explain..’
‘It’s bad enough that you cheated on me last night…but now this!!!’
